Take Action: State Legislatures
Create a Task Force
What are the duties of a State Legislature Gender Parity Task Force?
- Examine how current legislative practices might impact the ability of parents of young children to serve in elected office, with attention to the times of day and months of the year that elected officials are expected to be engaged in their duties, salaries for officeholders, and childcare availability.
- Research and identity the aforementioned legislative practices that would make it easier for parents, be they men or women, to serve in elected office and recommend those practices to the Senate / House of Delegates.
- Research the impact of ranked choice voting and multi-seat districts with fair representation voting on women’s representation, and explore the feasibility of implementing such election structures in state and local elections.
